Gardyn is a “hybriponic” system that combines the elegance of vertical drip systems with the explosive growth of aeroponics.
Because the system uses nutrient solution to directly feed the plants minerals, there’s no need for a complex soil food web.
Since beneficial microbes keep pathogens at bay in soil, without them there’s nothing to control the development of bacteria in hydroponic systems.
While changing and cleaning the tank regularly helps most of the time, it’s a good idea to add hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) periodically to the tank too. H2O2 is a sterilizing agent safe for your plants, but deadly to the microscopic bacteria and fungi present everywhere. By adding H2O2 regularly, Gardyners can make sure their roots are safe from any disease, bacteria, or fungi.
H2O2 can come in different concentrations, so always be sure to use 3% over the counter strength for our recommended usage rates.
Usage Rates:
- 1 Tablespoon per gallon
- Fill tank to full, add 6 Tablespoons of 3% H2O2
This can be applied to the tank as frequently as every other day if battling root disease, or once a week. It is an optional treatment to help optimize plant root health if Gardyners want to do the best possible job for their plants!
It’s a good idea to plan the H2O2 applications to coincide with tank top offs and tank cleanings to keep things simple!
