If you're noticing issues with any of your columns not receiving water, follow these steps to help diagnose and solve the issue.
1. Make a Diagnosis: Manually Turn On the Pump & Observe
- Tap the blue water tile on your app's home screen to manually turn on the pump.
- Let the pump run for 5 minutes. Do you hear the pump engaging or feel the pump's vibrations if you touch the white plastic pump holder or the wooden lid?
- Tap the tile again to turn watering off.
If you did not hear the pump engaging or feel the pump's vibrations, please see our guide on Troubleshooting Pump Issues. If you did hear or feel the pump engaging, keep reading!
2. Troubleshoot your Irrigation Hoses
A. Is the water pump in the correct position?
A common cause of plants not getting watered is the pump not being in the correct, lowered position. When your Gardyn is new, the pump arrives in the upper position, secured by a small transportation plug. Be sure to remove this transportation plug and lower the pump, as shown in this video at the 30-second mark.
B. Check the Assembly of your Columns & Irrigation Hoses
To inspect the irrigation hose in the top of each column, disassemble the metal rod and upper blades connecting your lights to your columns. Then, remove the top cap of each column.
Inside the top module of Gardyn 1.0 and 2.0, the end of the hose should be inserted into the column. In Gardyn 3.0, the hose sits poised over the opening that drains down into the rest of the column.
Also verify that the irrigation hose is not pinched. It should NOT look like the image below. This will restrict the water flow.
Next, make sure the irrigation hose throughout each column is not interfering with the yPods' ability to sit flush in the column. When you pull any yPod out, the hose behind it should look like the photo on the left. It should NOT look like the photo on the right:
You can straighten all irrigation hoses inside your columns by gently pulling them from the bottom of each column, as shown in this video.
C. Check the Connection of the Irrigation Hoses in the Columns to the Tank
Check the connections from the irrigation hoses in the columns to the connection on the base, as a pinch in the hose can cause water flow problems.
Depending on when you purchased your Gardyn, there are two different connections that you may have: a black elbow connector or the new white & blue quick connectors. If you have the new quick connectors, please refer to this article: Troubleshoot Watering Issues with the Irrigation Quick Connectors.
D. Check the Irrigation Hose on the Pump Exhaust
Follow these step-by-step instructions for a no-fuss approach to accessing the connections and pump under the lid. Don’t worry, there will be a link at the bottom of the page to direct you back here!
The pictures below demonstrate what the irrigation hose should and should not look like:
