Are you experiencing difficulties with one or both of your lights not turning on? Don't worry! We have a few things you can try to get them illuminated plus steps to discover the root cause of any issues.
1. Reboot your Gardyn
- Flip the power switch on the back of your Gardyn to the OFF (O) position, wait ~30 seconds, then flip it back ON (-).
- Wait an additional 5 minutes to give the Gardyn enough time to power up and reconnect to your WiFi.
- If your lights come back on after 5 minutes, congrats! You've solved your light issues. If they do not, continue to step 2 to check the lights' connections.
Please note that you should never need to hold down the silver button unless your network changes or the troubleshooting steps instruct you to do so. By holding down the silver button, you will erase all stored credentials in your Gardyn and you will have to reconnect your Gardyn to WiFi.
2. Check the Lights' Connections
Follow the next steps for Gardyn 1.0-2.0, or click here to jump to the following section if you have a Gardyn 3.0
Gardyn 1.0-2.0
In Gardyn 1.0 and 2.0, it's possible the red and black wire connections are not secure enough or are incorrectly connected.
-
- Power off your Gardyn by flipping the power switch to the Off (O) position and unplugging the power supply.
- Facing the back of the columns, unscrew the right and left upper blades from the columns, then fully remove the upper blades.
- From the front of your Gardyn, begin with either light to lift it up and off the lower blade.
- Disconnect the black and red wire connections and the black USB connection, then set the light aside in a secure place so it cannot fall over.
- Repeat to fully disconnect the opposite light.
- Now connect your lights to the opposite locations, left light on right location and right light on left location. Take a photo of each connection in case you need to reach out following these steps.
-
-
-
- On Gardyn 1.0 devices, there will be some visible metal when the USB cables are fully connected.
- On Gardyn 2.0 devices, there should be no visible metal when the USB cables are fully connected.
-
-
7. Reattach the upper blades to the columns using one screw on each side.
8. Reattach the Gardyn's power supply, plug it in, and flip the power switch to the ON (-) position.
9. Allow your Gardyn to fully reboot, which will take ~5 minutes. Note that your lights may still be off after successfully completing these steps.
10. In your app, check to see if you can tap the Light Tile to turn your lights on or off, then proceed to step 3, below.
Gardyn 3.0
-
- To remove the light bars on your Gardyn 3.0, first power off your device by flipping the power switch to the off position and unplugging the power supply.
- Facing the back of the columns, remove the right and left plugs holding the upper blades to the columns. Then completely remove the upper blades from the columns and light bars.
- Beginning with either light, press the small plastic pin to unclip the bottom of the light bar from the lower blade. Slide the light up and off the lower blade.
- Now connect your lights to the opposite locations, left light on right location and right light on left location. Take a photo of each connection in case you need to reach out following these steps.
- To reattach the light bars, rotate each light bar as needed to align the parts, press the pin, and slide it in. You should hear a "click" sound as the pin engages.
- Press firmly to ensure a snug connection and repeat with the other light.
- Reattach the upper blades to the columns using the plugs.
- Reattach the Gardyn's power supply, plug it in, and flip the power switch to the on position.
- Let your Gardyn fully reboot, which will take ~5 minutes.
- Allow 5 minutes for your lights to come on, and 30 minutes for your cameras to update the Live View in your app.
- After the 5 minutes, in your app, check to see if you can tap the Light Tile to turn your lights on or off. Then proceed to step 3, below.
3. Evaluate Outcomes & Choose Next Steps
Outcome A: Both lights turn on in opposite locations
- This usually indicates the cables were not connected properly. If your lights are still switched, you can now switch them back to their original locations.
- Congrats, you're done troubleshooting!
Outcome B: You're still experiencing issues with one or both lights.
